Truck Drivers Jobs: Responsibilities And Job Description



Truck driving is one of the careers that is not experienced by some. It is, however, a fact that, as long as there are big items that needs to be travelled in a significant distance, there will always be a need for truck drivers. If you are willing to be the person behind the wheels of a big rig, it is important that you have a general knowledge of what truck drivers do.

Job Description

Commercial truck drivers can work and operate locally in a particular area. Route drivers travel on the same path to deliver to retail establishments like grocery stores. On the other hand, pick-up and delivery drivers bring goods from a transport center to customers of businesses.

There are some who travel across states to carry merchandise, at times, hazardous chemicals and cars and they are called over-the-road (OTR) or long-haul truck drivers. Routes may vary from time to time.

Duties and Responsibilities

Driving the vehicle is the main duty of a truck driver. Long-haul drivers must take complete note of their driving notes to ensure that they are following the federal regulations and restrictions on work periods for operators. It is also the responsibility of the driver to keep track of the vehicle’s overall inspection taking into consideration its safety equipment for hazardous cargo.

Basically, driving is not the only concern of a truck driver. The safety of the vehicle, the cargo and other drivers on the vicinity is also on the list of responsibilities of a truck driver.
