Commercial Auto Haul Jobs for Military Veterans

If you are a military veteran and you want to become part of the trucking industry, then you would be glad to know that there are many laws that can waive off the training and the fee for you. The United States government has made sure that veterans and retired military members get enough career opportunities to live their life with ease.

Initiatives by Companies

A lot of trucking companies provide auto haul jobs to veterans, and some even give them preference over civilian candidates. If you have a record of driving commercial motor vehicles (CMV) for the military for at least 2 years, then you can use the experience to take the written permit exam and endorsement exams to obtain a driving permit. However, unlike civilians, you won’t have to take the CDL skills test.

Post 9/11 GI Bills and Programs

Being a former military member, it is important for you to know about the Montgomery and Post-9/11 GI Bills. With these programs, the government shall pay for your educational and tuition expense in case you need to undergo professional training.

FMCSA Skills Test Waiver

According to this rule, driving agencies have the authority to waive off the CDL skills test requirements for military veterans with a proven track record of safely driving CMVs. As for the application period, you must apply for commercial driving jobs within one year after you have left the service so you can qualify for these waivers.
